Company background
Barracudas Summer Activity Day Camps is the main trading division of Young World Leisure Group Ltd. Founded in 1992, the Company has grown steadily and is set to continue within a rapid growth period.

What do we do?
We provide children aged 4.5 to 16 years opportunities to explore new activities, make new friends and have a fantastic time whilst doing it! The procedures we set and follow ensure that they are cared for by quality staff and kept within a safe environment whilst their parents are always certain of receiving a fully professional service. The camps are organised in carefully chosen schools that are rented by us for the summer period.

Most of our camps run for a four-week period during the summer school holidays with a few opening over Easter as well. Most of our staff at the Easter camps are returners from the previous summer.

Our locations
We operate 26 camps throughout England in the following locations:

Ascot, Barnet, Bedford, Bishop's Stortford, Brentwood, Bromley, Chelmsford, Chislehurst, Cobham, Croydon, Farnham, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford, High Wycombe, Horsham, Huntingdon, Hutton, Kimbolton, Northwood, Norwich, Sevenoaks, Twickenham, Upminster, Welwyn, Wokingham & Woodford.

Each location is unique in it’s facilities, size and surroundings. Although the camps use the same procedures and policies, your daily routine and experience will vary with the above factors.

1. What are we looking for?
When appointing our seasonal staff we have firm ideas of who we are looking for. We truly believe that attitude is fundamentally more important than skills. Anyone who strives to perform their best, develop their skills and knowledge through training and work as part of a team can learn to do anything. We definitely “recruit on attitude and train for skill”.

We have ten different levels of seasonal positions available from Group Assistant to Camp Manager , some of which require experience and qualifications but for the majority we can provide training courses. Please look through the full job posts for specific information and requirements for each position.

2. What is our focus?
Being a seasonal company, we work for approximately eleven months of the year for one operational month. So we do not loose sight of the twelfth month along the way, we have a Company purpose that draws the team together and gives a united aim to focus on.

“To ensure that every child has such an amazing experience
they can’t wait to come back”

Broken down it is quite a task, ‘every child’, ‘an amazing experience’, ‘they can’t wait to come back’ and as we had about 13,000 child weeks in 2005 it is understandable why it needs to be focused on all throughout the year.

3. How do we work?
In our day-to-day work we live certain core values.

  • Communication
  • Innovation
  • Personal Development
  • Professionalism
  • Teamwork
  • Fun

Everyone who works at the Central Office is committed to these in everything we do. They form part of our appraisal system and the quarterly ‘Company Health Check’.

We have been organising activity camps for 14 years and have 14 years worth of experience employing staff for our camps. We have achieved Investors in People status for our commitment to staff training and development, communication and integration for all members of staff.
