About South Korea

South Korea is a fascinatingly different country, with a deep and subtle culture. Called the Land of the Morning Calm, its people are almost obsessed with nature: the country is astonishingly green from top to toe. Fully 70% of its area is mountainous, and walking in the beautiful countryside is perhaps the favourite activity of the Korean people.

Everything about South Korea will be an eye-opening experience. The food ranges from bland to eye-wateringly spicy and the cultural mindset of the people is distinctly Confucian in flavour! The South Korean language sounds harsh to the untrained ear, but it's surprisingly easy to pick up, along with the peculiar gestures and customs of the people.

Sights and events abound, from ornate temples set beautifully in rolling hills to the Cherry Blossom festival or the celebration of Buddha's Birthday. It's cheap and easy to travel the country, and your above-average wage coupled with free accommodation will make you well able to take advantage of the country's many public holidays.
