History
The centre was opened in 1989, funded by the London Docklands Development Corporation and the Sports Council at a cost of £1.2 million with the aim of providing recreational water activities for all sections of the community living and working in the local area. It is owned by The Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre Trust, a charitable trust with members drawn from boating enthusiasts and local organisations. It is managed by a wholly owned subsidiary company, The Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre Limited. All directors and trustees are voluntary. The CentreThe Centre has the best of both worlds with direct access to the Millwall Dock and the River Thames. The dock is 25 acres of sheltered water, providing a perfect environment for beginners to safely learn a new water sport. The water is frequently tested and conforms to the mandatory levels laid down by the E.C. Across the road is a slipway, which provides the centre with direct access onto the river so we can extend the water based activities onto a more challenging and exciting stretch of water. We are constantly looking for new staff at the centre. We offer the opportunity to work in a small friendly tightly knit team in one of the most beautiful settings in London. |
