Kingswood is one of the UK's leading providers of residential Adventure, Field Studies and ICT courses to schools and colleges from across the UK and Europe. Every year we recruit over 300 bright, funky stars worldwide, for adventure jobs at our 12 Educational Activity Centres around the UK and Northern France. Our Activity Instructor Development Programme is the perfect starting-point for you if you're considering a career in the outdoor education & leisure industry.
So What's The Job Like?
We're all about inspiring children to learn through having fun, we call it "learning in action". You will feel what it is like to make the difference in a child's life when they maybe don't even recognise it - when a child is having so much fun they don't realise they're learning control technology in the ICT lab, or that they've just perfectly demonstrated team leadership, team-working and negotiation when they led their group in the problem solving exercise. Or maybe they tested their stamina and coordination, increased their self-confidence and gained the respect of their classmates because they made it to the top of the climbing wall first. No experience is necessary, just a passion for inspiring children to learn in the outdoors.

In a single year, we aim to give our Instructors more than just a long list of qualifications. We also want you to achieve a degree of life experience that will equip you for the years ahead. Not everyone will be up to the task – that’s why we’re looking for the absolute best young stars. You will not only learn how to do things that not so long ago you wouldn’t have thought possible – you will also discover how to inspire, thrill and motivate young minds to do the same.

Our staff work hard and play hard, there is a strong social element and a "family" environment. During our busy periods, everyone works around the clock and during quieter holiday periods there is the opportunity to catch up sleep, holidays, family and that all important training.
Great Outdoors
Kingswood operates 12 centres, 3 of which are coastal locations. There's something for everyone - whether you like the rural life, by the sea or near busy towns! We even have a Centre in France so our fully trained instructors have an exciting opportunity to venture further a field.
Whichever centre you're based at, it will become your "home away from home". Accommodation varies from larger student halls types of residences to smaller houses. Accommodation is either centre-based or close by. Rooms are simply furnished but comfortable and in most cases shared. There are staff common rooms with Satellite TV and other amenities to relax at the end of the day. Most centres have separate staff internet facilities. All our centres have dining halls, which provide three hot meals a day every day of the week. These offer vegetarian options and cater for specific dietary needs.
Staff Uniform
Kingswood provides your daytime uniform as well as wet weather gear, laundry and first aid services. In 2006 Instructors voted to pay £60 towards clothing in return for being able to keep their unbranded arctic jackets. These monies are deducted from wages during your first few months. All other uniform is supplied free of charge.
Safety Standards
As an organisation, it is important that we maintain high staff and safety standards. Upon joining us, you will receive an Employee Handbook that details important do's and don'ts of life at Kingswood as well as our HR systems and procedures. All staff receive a formal contract and performance appraisals are held throughout the year.
Staff Reward Scheme
We recognise that our success is down to the people who work for us. To acknowledge their contribution we have developed the Kingswood Staff Reward Scheme. Every month at each centre, we recognise staff members who have really brought the Kingswood experience to life. Our "Staff Member Of The Year" can choose between the sun or snow for a holiday of a lifetime and runners up receive cash prizes.
Training
All first year instructors will be enrolled onto our Foundation Modern Apprenticeship training programme, gaining National Governing Body qualifications, which will ensure that you are provided with all of the skills and background knowledge needed to become one of our best instructors.
